Latest on Tyvek

Here’s my latest start–on a good sized piece of Tyvek (36×24″). This is using DaVinci Fluid Acrylics.  I really like the way they work for this technique, and they seem to dry fairly fast and thin. (Some acrylics using this technique stay very thick even when  dry.)

You may have to see it bigger for some of the details. Posts my be spotty for a couple months as we seek out warmer climes.

That is unbelieveable! Great use of acrylics on Tyvek. Acrylics seem to become part of the Tyvek and actually absorb into Tyvek’s fiber structure (depending on the technique you’re using – for example, if you apply acrylic paint and rub into the Tyvek with a cloth and wipe away the excess paint, you’re left with a thin layer of acrylic which won’t crack or peel from the Tyvek)

    Anyway – very amazing piece!
    Happy Holidays!

Tyvek is better for this technique, I think, than Yupo which I have used in the past. The Yupo is so slick that the paint really slides around a bit even after it’s dry, and can actually be peeled off after drying. However, after about 3-4 weeks it really becomes part of the Yupo and can’t be peeled off as easily. The flexibility of the paint after drying depends a lot on the paint itself. Most good artist quality acrylics remain very flexible, even with thick application.

This is absolutely stunning! It’s so intense and fascinating and a bit scary.
